A quick introduction
I currently hold a BA in Applied Mathematics and I have been working in the insurance industry as an analyst. I’ve also spent some time learning web development and am quite proficient with React, CSS, HTML… While I find web development fun, I prefer working with data and using the insights to make decisions, implement changes, and find patterns.
I find cybersecurity most appealing because it would be constant challenge! Vulnerabilities aren’t going anywhere and figuring out which issues to prioritize and developing plans of action to mitigate and prevent those risks would not only be challenging, but fulfilling!
Course of Action
Having background in web development may help some, but I realize I have a lot to learn. To start this journey I will be completing the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate on Coursera.
- Prepares you to take CompTIA Security+ exam, and upon completion of this course you will receive a 30% discount for the exam and practice materials
- Hands on experience with Python, Linux, and SQL
I will be using other resources and doing labs, but this a good starting place that covers all the basics.
