PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A federal magistrate judge has recommended that a Pike County sex offender return to prison after he admitted to violating the terms of his release.
Steven Church, 56, of Shelby Gap, pleaded guilty in Tennessee to distributing child pornography back in 2010. He was released from prison in 2018.
As part of the conditions of his release, he was ordered not to use controlled substances or possess computers and other electronic devices.
In July, he tested positive for using marijuana and was found in possession of a smart phone, computer, tablet, hard drive, flash drives, an SD card and a streaming device. He admitted to the violations at a hearing last week.
Now, a magistrate judge has recommended he return to prison for eight months. A district judge will have to give final approval to the sentence.
Church is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
