Summer has arrived — time for trips to the beach, pool, local parks and ice cream shops. However, I’m seeing more and more kids unbelted, sitting in front seats and out of safety seats far too early. That worries me. Car accidents are one of the leading causes of death in children and almost 40% of the deaths in 2020 were children who were unbuckled.

Florida law requires all children to be buckled and those under the age of 6 to be in appropriate car seats — but this is the minimum standard. To keep kids the safest, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends more.
