Kennewick police dispel Halloween flyer hoax, emphasize trick-or-treating safety instead | #childsafety | #kids | #chldern | #parents | #schoolsafey

Flyers seen around a Kennewick neighborhood are telling folks to avoid trick-or-treating at a certain home.

We’re told what started as a joke involving Halloween decorations between neighbors is gaining popularity on social media after the City of Kennewick seal was found on the flyers.

While the Kennewick Police Department says putting the city seal on the flyer is not a crime, they’re still asking folks not to impersonate the city government, and tell us they are taking down flyers as they are found.

Kennewick police say they’re hoping folks have a fun and safe holiday this year, and tell us it’s always a good idea to keep a child’s safety in mind when trick-or-treating or in a vehicle on Halloween.

Commander Aaron Clem, with the Kennewick Police Department, says. “We are not recommending people avoid any particular address, all we would recommend is people be safe. Wear clothing you can be seen in, and take lights with you. If you’re putting your children in masks or costumes, ensure they can see. Have them avoid running across streets. Have them remain on the sidewalk.”
