Loaded gun found at high school on Staten Island; student questioned, source says | #schoolsaftey

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A loaded gun was found inside McKee High School in St. George on Friday morning, according to police.

A student has been taken in for questioning, a source with knowledge of the investigation told the Advance/

At 9:45 a.m. on Friday, officers responded to a 911 call of a firearm recovered inside the school at 101 Belmont Place, according to a spokesman for the NYPD.

School safety agents told officers that a male was found to be in possession of a loaded, silver firearm, the police spokesman said.

No one has been charged at this time and the investigation continues, the police spokesman said.

“Weapons of any kind are not tolerated in our schools,” according to a statement from the city Department of Education (DOE).

“Our school staff and school safety agents immediately and safely recovered this item after a group of brave students raised concerns to a trusted staff member. All safety procedures were followed. All students and staff are safe, and we are working closely with NYPD regarding follow-up actions.”
