Escambia County, FL – A Florida man has been sentenced to probation after attempting to run over an individual whom he mistakenly believed to be a registered sex offender.
According to police, 45-year-old Kinte Franklin was driving near a liquor store in Escambia County in January when he observed the victim.
Franklin allegedly told the victim “I’m going to kill you because you are a convicted child molester,” before intentionally running over the victim’s legs.
According to court documents, the victim’s wife claimed to have overheard a passenger in Franklin’s vehicle urging him to harm the victim, saying, “You just need to run over this [expletive]; you just need to kill him.”
Surveillance footage from Fusion Liquor, where the incident occurred, revealed Franklin repeatedly circling the parking lot and pulling up to the victim to exchange words.
Franklin was then seen pulling into a parking space, reversing, and then driving forward to strike the victim multiple times with his car.
Despite Franklin’s allegations, records indicated that the victim was not a registered sex offender.
Franklin was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery using a deadly weapon.
He entered a plea of no contest to misdemeanor battery.
