Authorities have arrested and charged 27-year-old Darius Matylewich with kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child after he allegedly used the online gaming platform Roblox to prey on an 11-year-old girl. The Wayne Police Department in Passaic County, New Jersey, reported the child missing and later located her in Bear, Delaware. According to law enforcement, Matylewich met the victim while playing a video game online and subsequently transported her from Wayne, New Jersey, to Bear, Delaware, without the consent of her parents.

The arrest of Matylewich took place in New Castle County, Delaware, on September 10. He has since been extradited to New Jersey to face charges. Matylewich reportedly communicated with the girl through Roblox, a popular online gaming platform. Roblox released a statement stating that they have reached out to law enforcement to assist in the investigation. The company claims to have a team of moderators who enforce strict community standards in order to prevent grooming on their platform.

If convicted, Matylewich could face a prison sentence of 10 to 30 years for the kidnapping charge, with a requirement to serve at least 85% of the term before being eligible for parole. Additionally, he could face three to five years in prison for the endangerment charge.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is urging anyone with information related to this case or other incidents involving Matylewich to contact their tip line. The incident highlights the potential dangers associated with online gaming platforms and serves as a reminder for parents and guardians to closely monitor their children’s online activities and engage in open conversations about internet safety.
