Man failed to register, resided near playground | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey


EDWARDSVILLE — A Cottage Hills man with a long criminal history faces two felony charges relating to his failure to register as a sex offender and residing too near a playground.

Donald D. Ennis, 64, of the 1300 block of First Street, Cottage Hills, was charged Aug. 14 with unlawful failure to register as a sex offender, a Class 3 felony; and unlawful residency of a child sex offender, a Class 4 felony.

The case was presented by the East Alton Police Department.

According to court documents, on Aug. 12 Ennis failed to register within three days of establishing a residence in the 400 block of Cobb Street, East Alton; and knowingly resided within 500 feed of the playground at the Keasler Complex at 615 Third St., East Alton.

According to court documents, Ennis has a long criminal history with felony charges and convictions going back to 1976.

That includes a conviction for aggravated criminal sexual abuse and two convictions for violating the sex offender registry.

According to the Illinois State Police sex offender database, Ennis is listed as a sexual predator. His victim was 15 at the time of the incident, while he was 49.

Bail was set at $50,000.

In an unrelated case, Christian Reed, 30, of Bloomington, was charged with criminal damage to property over $500, a Class 4 felony; and criminal damage to property under $500, a Class A misdemeanor.

The case was presented by the Highland Police Department.

According to court documents, on Aug. 13 Reed caused in excess of $500 damage to a Ford F-150 pickup; and less than $500 damage to a sliding glass door.

Bail was set at $20,000.

These individuals have only been charged and remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. All charges may not be reported.
