The Riviera Beach Police Department said on August 29, 2022, officers were dispatched to a stabbing at 2500 North Ocean Avenue.

When officers arrived, police said the victim sustained two stab wounds to vital spots on his body. The victim was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.

Following an investigation, the suspect was identified as David “Dave” Barnes, 35. Probable cause was established and a warrant was walked through for David Barnes’ arrest. The arrest warrant was turned over to the U.S. Marshals task force.

In the arrest report, “’Dave’ started insulting [the victim] and accusing him of being a homosexual and child molester. ‘Dave’ then punched the back of [the victim]’s head and neck. After punching [the victim], ‘Dave’ walked a few feet away to his backpack, removed a knife from the backpack and brandished the knife. As ‘Dave’ was getting the knife he told [the victim] that he had let him live. [The victim], in fear for his life, ran through a crowd looking for police. [The victim] was able to escape and report the incident to Riviera Beach police.”
