The NBCUniversal-owned television stations in Chicago for NBC and Telemundo is looking for a Manager to supervise the System Analysts and IT Tech Support function. This position manages the daily and long term health, security and operation of both station’s IT infrastructure, by developing and maintaining a culture of superior customer service to all of our customers both internally and externally (broadcast, digital, web, mobile and facility clients).
JOB DUTIES:

  • Manage the IT support and assigned BO&T teams
  • Provide technical support and on-going training to news and studio operations teams for newsroom system (Dalet) and automated production control system (Ross Overdrive)
  • Responsible for maintaining on-air quality for both WMAQ-TV and WSNS-TV, including but not limited to: Broadcast IT platforms, Newsroom Technology, Acquisition/Edit/Playback systems, Graphics systems, Character Generators, online and streaming
  • Ensure staff is highly trained and cross-trained on all systems to eliminate any single point of failure within our systems and provide stability for all of our end-users
  • Proactively identify a plan, budget and timeline for all IT projects, hit benchmark dates and deliver successfully completed projects
  • Effective and proactive communication with customers of all IT department initiatives
  • Effective leadership of team for prioritization, equitable distribution and tracking of all tasks within the IT department
  • Active participation, engagement and collaboration with all BO&T management team to support all Department initiatives
  • Work with the BO&T and Division teams to develop long range goals for capital as well as all strategic initiatives in 1-year and 5-year planning cycles
  • Develop new and/or improved workflows to improve quality and reduce errors for all content
  • Ability to accurately document all systems and procedures and track/manage changes
  • Participate in all appropriate Division calls and meetings to represent our needs and stay informed on all initiatives and emerging technologies to be a resource and advocate for strategic planning and improvement
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years in IT technology, progressing in level of responsibility
  • Minimum of 3 years in digital systems (video servers, streaming, out of home)
  • Minimum of 3 years of coaching and mentoring other professionals
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a broadcast environment maintaining complex systems such as automation, non-linear editing, newsroom computer systems, distribution, transcoding, graphics platforms and web interactivity
  • Demonstrated ability for project management and execution, including detailed budgets, timelines and successful completion of projects including balancing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Working knowledge of newsroom automation systems and non-linear editing systems including tools in the Adobe CS
  • Strong knowledge of digital video including file-based delivery, compression, transcoding, streaming and storage
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, act decisively and successfully execute multiple assignments based on prioritized needs
  • Certifications: Apple, Cisco, Intel, ITIL, Project Management and Microsoft a plus
  • College education in Information Technology preferred
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish a plus
