Maricopa schools recap safety, discipline progress | #schoolsaftey

In a recent update on student discipline and school safety, Assistant Superintendent Tracey Pastor highlighted Maricopa Unified School District’s progress from the past academic year.

The district focused on various areas of improvement, with a particular emphasis on engaging stakeholders and gathering input.

MUSD established a safety and prevention team – centered around emergency planning – including parents, teachers, staff, city officials, Maricopa police and fire.

They met quarterly to discuss access to multiple cameras and school radios during 911 emergencies.

“Seamless communication is essential during incidents that involve intruders,” Pastor said. “MUSD and MPD is working very closely together to achieve this.”

In addition to the safety and prevention team, the district is also prioritizing facility upgrades.

With the ongoing reconstruction of Maricopa Wells Middle School and Maricopa Elementary School front offices, there will be a physical barrier between visitors and students.

Visitors won’t be allowed past the initial lobby without being buzzed in, securing the building entrances and enhancing campus safety.
