A man who is registered sex offender for crimes in Marin County has been sentenced for causing a crash that led to the death of a Marysville woman, the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Dominik Oshay Cash, 30, received 21 years to life in prison for the incident that occurred Jan. 16, 2021, in which he ran a red light at 80 mph in Marysville and crashed into Dawn Loralee Ritter, 55, who died on impact, the prosecution said Wednesday.

Cash fled California Highway Patrol officers after a traffic stop for speeding. Officers would later discover he had a 9mm handgun in the seat next to him at the time and multiple warrants for his arrest, prosecutors said.

The prosecution said despite that multiple attempts from law enforcement to stop his vehicle safely during the pursuit, he entered the intersection and struck Ritter’s vehicle.

After the impact, the prosecution said, Cash continued to flee from law enforcement on foot but was taken into custody.

Prosecutors filed eight counts against Cash, including murder, intoxicated driving, reckless evasion and hit-and-run driving.

Several members of Ritter’s family spoke of her loss at the sentencing hearing, the DA’s office said.

Cash has a lengthy criminal record. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to rubbing against a 16-year-old girl and exposing himself to her in the cosmetics aisle of the Rite Aid at Corte Madera Town Center.

Cash, then a resident of the East Bay city of Oakley, also pleaded guilty to stealing alcohol from the Rite Aid and Safeway stores in Mill Valley and Corte Madera. The alcohol was valued at more than $1,500.

Cash accepted a plea offer from Judge Kelly Simmons, the district attorney’s office said. His felony theft and burglary convictions were reduced to misdemeanors and he was placed on probation. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Cash’s prior convictions included vehicle theft, soliciting a lewd act and carrying a loaded firearm in public, according to a prosecution affidavit.
