Where can you hear firsthand from one of the world’s foremost cybersecurity experts, connect with the Southeast’s top tech leaders and learn about career opportunities? The answer is at the Southeast Cybersecurity Summit (SCS)—and it’s happening right here in The Magic City, April 10-11.

We talked to Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato as well as board members from TechBirmingham and the SCS about this must-attend event and why you need to register today.

Kicking off day one of the Summit is a fireside chat with keynote speaker Lesley Carhart, Director of Incident Response for North America at Dragos, Inc.

Carhart’s mission at Dragos is to protect the world’s most critical infrastructure—think running water, functioning electricity and safe industrial working environments—from adversaries who wish to do it harm.

Carhart is retired from the United States Air Force Reserves and has been named “DEF CON Hacker of the Year”, “SANS Difference Maker”, and “Power Player” by SC Magazine.

When not working, they enjoy being a youth martial arts instructor—talk about a fascinating keynote speaker!

We talked to Willie Clemmons, who works for EBSCO’s Information Security team and is on the board for the SCS, about why you should register for this year’s event.

“We have an opportunity for people in the Southeast to come to Birmingham and catch up on cybersecurity news and practices. You can’t beat getting this content for this price.

If nothing more, it gives you a chance to see what other technologies and opportunities are out there.”

Willie Clemmons, Director of Identity and Access Management, EBSCO

The Southeast Security Summit is a great place for tech detectives

Steve Sebastian is on the board for TechBirmingham and is involved in planning the SCS as well. Sebastian echoed Clemmons’ thoughts about why this event is a must-attend for all skill levels.

“Security summits are big events for tech detectives. You get to learn from experts, see cool technology and network with others.

It’s a chance to meet others who share your interest in technology and explore different career paths in cybersecurity like ethical hacking, digital forensics or even becoming a security analyst!”

Steve Sebastian, Executive Director IT/IS, Viva Health

You can learn new ways to keep information secure

Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato attended last year’s Summit and shared his thoughts on this year’s event with us.

“Any time you can gather groups together that have a common goal of keeping their information secure, you learn from one another.

The fact that you can sit and discuss cybersecurity gives you an understanding of some experiences that you may not have gone through. So, attending the Summit gives companies and individuals an opportunity to learn ways to be proactive in protecting important information assets.”

Mayor Frank Brocato, City of Hoover
