A dating app scam that targeted men in Mumbai has come to light, leaving victims with bills ranging from Rs 23,000 to Rs 61,000, reported the Times of India. According to a user on X, women use well-known dating apps like QuackQuack, Happn, Bumble, and Tinder to trick unsuspecting men into going to pricey nightclubs.
The way the scam works is that women use dating apps to match with men swiftly and recommend instant meets at prearranged locations.
When they arrive, the women place expensive orders—many of which are not on the menu—and then quickly leave, giving plenty of excuses. After that, the men are left to pay exorbitant fees, and some of them allege that when they complain, club employees threaten them.
At least ten guys become victims at a single club every day, according to the TOI report. The ladies in question are said to collect between 15 to 20 percent of the bill as commission, indicating that this is a well-organised operation that may involve nightclub management.

The fraud persists unabatedly in several Mumbai venues, despite the victims’ countless cyber complaints.
For fear of being exposed personally, many victims have been reluctant to disclose incidents to the police.
Similar incidents have been recorded in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurugram, and other major Indian cities. A guy in Delhi was the victim of a similar fraud in June, which left him with an astounding bill of Rs 1.2 lakh.
