Michigan OKAY2SAY program virtualizes safety reporting for schools | #schoolsaftey

BIG RAPIDS — Following its implementation at Big Rapids Public Schools, administrators are discussing the impact that the OKAY2SAY program has had on increasing district safety.

OK2SAY is a student safety program that allows anyone to confidentially report tips on potential harm or criminal activities directed at school students, school employees and schools.

It is a program that gives students the tools to step up and speak out if they are concerned about their safety or the safety of another.

BRPS Superintendent Tim Haist said the program has seen use in the district.

“On occasion, we have kids that have used it,” Haist said. “When we get a report we are contacted by OKAY2SAY and notified. I would encourage any students that maybe they feel like that they’re looking for a safe way to communicate their concerns to use that program. There’s an opportunity to do that online. There’s an opportunity to do that by text, there’s an opportunity to do that by making a phone call. If they’re feeling concerns or have concerns, please tell an adult if they’re not comfortable telling one of the school personnel, OKAY2SAY is a great way to pass that information along.”
