Microsoft To Pay $20 Billion For Child Safety Violations | Nation & World | #childsafety | #kids | #chldern | #parents | #schoolsafey

Microsoft has agreed to pay $20 million to US federal regulators. This followed an investigation that found the company had illegally collected data on children who had started Xbox accounts. The settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also includes increased protections for child gamers. The FTC found that Microsoft violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act by not obtaining proper parental consent. They also found that Microsoft retained personal data on children under 13 for longer than necessary. Microsoft failed to inform parents about the extent of data collection, including sharing data with third parties. Now, Microsoft must implement new safety protections for children and delete personal data if no parental consent is obtained. The settlement requires approval from a federal judge.
