A 36-year-old man has been killed by an irate mob after hacking his 76-year-old mother in Ziwani village, Kwale county.
The incident happened at around mid-morning according to Matuga sub-county OCPD William Cheruiyot.
The son, Musa Stephen was hunted by residents shortly after attacking his mum Mtenguri Rashid with a panga.
It is said that Stephen cut his mum on the back of her neck and she succumbed to the injuries.
The deceased (Stephen) also attacked and badly wounded his sister who is currently recuperating at Kwale sub-county hospital.
The sister was trying to save the mum who was crying for help as the son mercilessly hacked her with a panga.
The incident angered the residents who traced the suspect and beat him to death hours later.
“The son was killed by an angry mob after killing his mum, it is such a tragedy,” said Cheruiyot.
According to him, Stephen had a criminal record and was once jailed for threatening his mother and other family members.
Cheruiyot said the mum (now also the deceased) later bailed out his son after dropping the case against him.
The sub-county police boss said then the court released him and all the charges were dropped.
“He has once been brought here in our station and charged for threatening to kill but was set free after his mother begged the court to have mercy on him,” he said.
Cheruiyot said police have launched investigations to establish the reason behind the feud.
However, a close relative who sought anonymity said Stephen was using drugs.
Cheruiyot has strongly condemned the act and asked residents to seek peaceful dispute resolution methods.
He warned the public against taking matters into their hands adding that law will take it’s course.
The burial processes for both the deceased are currently ongoing, the family has confirmed.
