The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Maddox, 33, began communication with an undercover agent pretending to be an underage girl.

Deputies said Maddox expressed his interest in having sex with the girl despite telling him she was 14 and agreed to meet at a pre-arranged location.

“That’s young, baby. I get in trouble for that,” Maddox reportedly told investigators.

“You can’t even drive. You gonna stay with me all night?”

When Maddox arrived at the location, about half a dozen deputies were lying in wait inside the home, waiting for the former MLB pitcher to approach the door.

Video showed Maddox exiting his red pickup truck and walking to the property as deputies ripped open the door and pounced on the former ace, tackling him to the ground.

A mugshot of Maddox showed the former Boston Red Sox star suffered several bumps to his face after police say he resisted arrest.

“Former Major League Baseball player Austin Dean Maddox resisted arrest until our K9 got involved,” the sheriff’s office said.

Maddox was charged with four felony counts, including solicitation of a child via computer to engage in sexual conduct.

The former major league player was one of 27 men who were arrested under the sheriff’s office’s Operation Valiant Knights.

The undercover operation also involved the arrest of a Duval County Public Schools maintenance worker, a Mayo Clinic respiratory therapist, and an Army National Guard sergeant.

Maddox was drafted out of the University of Florida by the Boston Red Rox in the 2012 draft.

He appeared in 13 games for Boston during the 2017 season but played the majority of his baseball career in the minor leagues.

The Red Sox released Maddox in 2019.

Maddox is being held on $300,000 bail. He is expected to appear in court on May 28.

James Hill, a defense attorney for Maddox, told ABC affiliate WCVB-TV that his client intends to fight the allegations against him.
