Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) has been named a recipient of the 2023 Bureau of Justice STOP School Violence Prevention grant in the amount of $1,000,000. The MCIU provides support to school districts across the county

According to their announcement, the grant will expand emergency planning and preparedness for students with disabilities and build upon existing threat assessment training for staff.

The MCIU will collaborate with local law enforcement, school staff, and parents to complete the work of the grant from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2026.

The announcement goes on to describe its plans to launch a county-wide public relations campaign to emphasize the critical role of all community members in maintaining school safety.

“We are truly honored to have been selected as a recipient of the 2023 Bureau of Justice STOP School Violence Prevention grant,” the MCIU said in a statement. “This grant will empower our commitment to enhancing emergency planning for students with disabilities and strengthening threat assessment training for our staff. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with our local law enforcement, dedicated school staff, and parents to ensure the safety of our schools and set a precedent for community-wide engagement and school safety initiatives in Montgomery County.”
