MSUM still struggling with ransomware attack | The Mighty 790 KFGO | #ransomware | #cybercrime

MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Minnesota State University-Moorhead is still dealing with a ransomware attack, affecting some of the university’s servers.

The university says the IT team discovered that a few servers were locked and encrypted by ransomware on Feb. 1. The university says its investigation shows that the affected servers did not contain sensitive information like social security or credit card numbers.

The university says if they find that personal information was accessed, they will notify those affected.

Systems integrated with other universities don’t appear to be affected and other schools in the state university network have not had similar issues. Classes have continued, but students and staff have had significant problems.

Ransomware is a form of malware that is used to prevent users from accessing files, and in some cases, extract and hold data until a ransom is paid.
