COLUMBIA − MU Health Care’s Safe Kids Columbia program is teaming up with State Farm for a car seat checkup event at Quick Lane on Bernadette Drive in Columbia on Wednesday.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend the event between 3 and 5 p.m. for a free check of their child seat by child passenger safety technicians and instructors.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages one to12 in the United States, according to a press release.

“A properly used and installed child safety seat can reduce the risk of injury by as much as 71%, but too many families do not have access to the education and safety devices that every child deserves,” said Jennifer Brooks, coordinator of Safe Kids Columbia.

This event is part of State Farm’s Good Neighbor Car Safety Program, a new national initiative to increase access to education and resources, help inspire behavior change, and create a culture of safety for children and families.
