National initiative promotes school bus safety in Cambria County | #schoolsaftey

Police and school officials teamed up Wednesday morning for Operation Safe Stop in Cambria County.

It’s a national initiative to promote school bus safety throughout communities.

Forest Hills School District partnered with Adams Township police as officers boarded buses along with students.

The police department also increasing its presence along school bus routes to crack down on speeding and illegal passing.

Ray Fenchak, Miller Motor Company manager, said that when the school bus is stopped with the red lights on, that means there are students crossing the road to get on the bus and traffic needs to stop so they can get on.

Dave Lehman, Forest Hills School District Superintendent, said “The bus drivers are an integral part of our operation. If you think about it, they see our students every morning and they’re the last people from the school to see our students whenever they drop off. We try to work hard with our bus providers, and we appreciate everything they do for our Rangers. ”

Busses in the Forest Hills school district transport nearly 2,000 students every day.
