Argentinian guitarist Gabriel Hermida may be best known as one half of the popular jazz duo Yael & Gabriel, but he’s also a popular band leader and composer, who blends his country’s classical tango with flamenco and contemporary jazz. On his latest visit to New York’s Club Bonafide, he and his new ensemble will pay tribute to another innovator, gypsy flamenco guitar legend Paco de Lucia. Famed for being the first to mix jazz with traditional Andalusian music, de Luca impressed fans and critics alike over his more than 40-year career with his technical brilliance and his development of the sound that became New Flamenco. He passed in 2014, posthumously winning one of his many Latin Grammy Awards for his album Cancin Andaluza.

Anthony Dean Griffey, Randall Scarlata, Susannah Stewart, Timothy Long, and Marie Rolf To celebrate the English translation and revised edition of Franois Lesure’s critical biography Claude Debussy, Marie Rolf, Senior Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor of Music Theory at the Eastman School of Music, curates a program that features premieres of Debussy works. The evening presents excerpts from the composer’s early cantatas Daniel (world premiere) and Hymnis (U.S. premiere) as well as his longest and most virtuosic song, “Sguidille” (New York City premiere). Performers include Grammy Awardwinning tenor Anthony Dean Griffey, who is also a Professor of Voice at the Eastman School of Music, baritone Randall Scarlata, soprano Susannah Stewart, and pianist Timothy Longall Eastman alumni.
