The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has released more information about the arrest of 35-year-old Kabeh Cummings in New York.

Police say Cummings is connected to at least three sexual assaults dating back to 2010.

According to deputies, in November 2021, a detective was reviewing a cold case from 2013 when she requested more evidence to be tested.

“These cases a lot of times come down to something like DNA, especially in a stranger incident,” said Heather Feil, Sacramento County sergeant detective.

In June 2022, the tested evidence resulted in a DNA profile that matched two Sacramento Police jurisdiction cold cases.

“With the assistance of the FBI, we were able to gather some more evidence for testing and confirmed in fact that the DNA that was found on the evidence in all three of the cases here in California did in fact belong to Mr. Cummings,” Feil said.

Authorities tracked Cummings down to New York, where he was living at the time. From there, they collected more evidence, and on Aug. 28, 2023, an arrest warrant was issued.

“The detectives flew out to New York, met with the FBI and the local police department and together they were able to make an arrest,” Feil said.

Cummings was taken into custody the following day.

“In the end, when we’re able to make this arrest, it’s very satisfying for everybody that we’re able to give that closure to the victims and help them survive these horrific incidents,” Feil said.

Cummings will be booked into the Sacramento County main jail Friday on the following charges:

  • Kidnapping and carrying away
  • Three counts of kidnapping to commit rape
  • One count of anal or genital penetration by a foreign object by force
  • Three counts of forcible oral copulation
  • Two counts of forcible rape
  • One count of sodomy of an unconscious victim

More details in the case are expected to be released Tuesday during a joint press conference from all the agencies involved.
