New partnership for cybersecurity program at Boise State | #hacking | #cybersecurity | #infosec | #comptia | #pentest | #ransomware

A new partnership will give students at Boise State University hands-on work experience in cybersecurity.

The school’s Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity has partnered with Hyprfire, a company which provides next-generation network detection and response, or NDR, solutions. Those solutions will be used in the institute’s Cyberdome program.

The Cyberdome program provides cybersecurity services to rural school districts, counties and cities within Idaho, giving students a chance to gain real-world experience. Hyprfire’s technology could bolster the curriculum by giving students ‘knowledge and practical experience needed to excel in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity,” BSU stated in a release.

According to the school, the partnership with Hyprfire using its managed network detection and response system Firebug, “will provide an immediate pathway to commercial markets.” Along with the curriculum and work experience, the institute services the rural clients by running a security operations center staffed by a trained and supervised team.

“We are thrilled to partner with Boise State University in the endeavor,” said Tim Jones, managing director for Hyprfire. “By combining our expertise in network detection and response with the Cyberdome’s industry-focused training excellence and cyber-forward stance, we aim to cultivate a new generation of cybersecurity professionals who can effectively combat the ever-growing threat landscape.”

Jones added that his company applauds the institute’s approach to offering cybersecurity to clients in rural areas.

According to BSU, the Firebug application allows the IT team to detect and respond to potential security incidents in a proactive manner. It also gives clients the ability to identify and mitigate threats within their networks before any damage or loss is incurred.

“Our partnership with Hyprfire aligns perfectly with our mission to provide our students with real-world cyber skills and the knowledge of how to protect our industry partners through Cyberdome,” said Ed Vasko, director for the Institute for Pervasive Cybersecurity, in a statement. “By incorporating Hyprfire’s NDR solutions into our Cyberdome platform, we are ensuring that our students and clients are at the forefront of cybersecurity competency development.”
