As a new school year starts for Surry County School students, students and staff at North Surry High School will notice a change to the way they get in and out of the school. According to Surry County Schools, they’re joining with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office to address traffic safety concerns at North Surry High School. A letter sent to parents about the traffic pattern said, “our collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Transportation has led us to initiate a comprehensive traffic study and explore various solutions to enhance traffic conditions and ensure the safety of all.”Last year, WXII Reporter Maria DeBone talked to concerned parents about the traffic outside North Surry High School.The letter sent by Surry County School Superintendent Dr. Travis L. Reeves and Surry County Sheriff Steve Hiatt said as they continue to work towards completing the ongoing traffic study and securing funding for the construction of it, they are taking proactive measures and implementing a new traffic pattern. Beginning on the first day of school, Aug. 10, there will be a single entrance and a single exit at North Surry High School.Those arriving on campus to drop off or pick up their children are asked to utilize the main entrance and follow the directional signs. Staff, student, and bus parking have now been relocated for the new traffic pattern. The letter said to, “please use extreme caution as you enter and exit campus.” A map of the new traffic pattern can be found below.
