Odisha Takes the Digital Leap: 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Unveiled! | #cybercrime | #infosec


Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards combating cybercrime and enhancing digital security in Odisha, Sunil Kumar Bansal, IPS, Director General of Police (DGP) for Odisha, inaugurated the state-of-the-art 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre & Cyber Help Desk today at the Cyber Complex in Bhubaneswar. The call center, which is operational 24/7 in three shifts, is manned by trained police constables and supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ I4C (Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre).

A Beacon of Hope in the Digital World

The 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre is a critical addition to the state’s efforts to combat cybercrimes effectively. It features 10 dedicated lines to handle inquiries, reports, and provide assistance to individuals facing cyber threats or falling victim to online crimes. With the rapid increase in cybercrimes, this dedicated call center is expected to be a beacon of hope for residents of Odisha seeking help and guidance in navigating the complex world of digital security.

Comprehensive Services within the Cyber Crime Unit

In addition to the 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre, the Cyber Crime Unit of the Crime Branch in Odisha has launched several other initiatives aimed at bolstering the state’s cybercrime-fighting capabilities.

1. Children & Women Online Abuse Monitoring Unit (CWOAMU)

The CWOAMU has been established to address online complaints related to children and women received through the NCRP (National Cybercrime Reporting Portal). This specialized unit will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the interests and well-being of vulnerable individuals online.

2. Cyber Investigation Support Team (CIST)

The Cyber Investigation Support Team (CIST) has been formed to provide live and real-time support to investigating officers during the process of cybercrime investigation. This initiative is expected to expedite the resolution of cybercrimes and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.

3. Cyber Monitoring & Coordination (M &C) Unit

The Cyber Monitoring & Coordination Unit (M &C) will focus on handling sim/IMEI blocking of cyber fraudsters. It will also work towards establishing backward linkages from cases detected in other states, facilitating the tracking and apprehension of cybercriminals operating across state borders.

4. Cyber Training Unit

A dedicated Cyber Training Unit has been established to provide year-round training in the field of cybersecurity. This initiative aims to equip law enforcement personnel with the knowledge and skills needed to stay ahead of cybercriminals in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

A Unified Front Against Cybercrime

The launch of these new cybercrime-fighting initiatives underscores the Odisha Police’s commitment to creating a safer digital environment for its citizens. With the 1930 Cyber Crime Help Line Call Centre at its core, these specialized units within the Cyber Crime Unit are poised to work together seamlessly, forming a unified front against cybercrime.

Director General of Police, Sunil Kumar Bansal, emphasized the importance of these initiatives in addressing the growing menace of cybercrimes.
