EAST NAPLES, Fla. – A Naples woman is behind bars after defrauding her former employer out of more than $36,000, officials said.

Lisa Elliot, 44, is facing charges after a years-long investigation determined she was stealing from a window and door installation business in East Naples, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

The lengthy investigation started in 2018 and led to Elliot’s arrest on Monday.

Elliot was working as an office manager at the business when she allegedly embezzled $36,860.28 by stealing and altering checks from the business operating account, the investigation uncovered. According to CCSO, the 44-year-old then deposited customer checks into her personal bank account.

Deputies said she was arrested at her home in East Naples and booked into the Collier County Jail before she was released on a $20,000 bond.

“Embezzlement cases typically don’t result in immediate arrests because they take longer to investigate in order to acquire evidence,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said. “Nonetheless, these cases are important because they often impact people’s livelihoods, and the terrific work of our diligent and thorough detectives should be recognized.”

Elliot is facing charges of scheme to defraud and grand theft.
