For his work in helping to solve a major case involving an alleged child predator, Officer Joshua Rodriguez was named the Fontana Police Department’s Employee of the Month for October of 2023.

Rodriguez was honored by the Fontana City Council during the March 14 meeting.

“He works very hard for us and he always turns out a great work product,” said Police Captain James Burton during the presentation.

Burton praised Rodriguez for his investigative skills with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit.

Last year, the officer was contacted by investigators from the Department of Homeland Security who told him there was a victim in Canada who was being solicited for digital sexual images, and the suspect came back to Fontana, Burton said.

Rodriguez identified the suspect and found out that there were two impending cases against the suspect, who also had some prior convictions.

Rodriguez conducted a very thorough investigation and authored a search warrant with the assistance of ICAC, the FBI, and Homeland Security, resulting in the recovery of several pieces of digital evidence, Burton said.

The officer identified two victims in Canada and 17 other victims across the U.S., working hard to ensure that a prosecution could be made at the federal level.

“This was one example of the things that he does on a regular basis,” Burton said.
