When school security and staff members stepped in, the number of students involved, and the intensity of the situation made their intervention challenging and students continued to fight despite efforts to de-escalate.

Following the incident, the school was placed under a controlled campus status through dismissal.

School officials said that decision was made to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.

Principal Dr. Christina Stanley is reviewing the incident for disciplinary actions and assisting the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in their ongoing investigation.

In a released statement, Pasco Superintendent Kurt Browning said: “Let me be perfectly clear: behavior of this nature will not be tolerated in Pasco County Schools. “Every student has the right to a safe and conducive learning environment, and we will take every necessary measure to ensure that this remains the case.”

Out of an abundance of caution, additional officers were at the school on Wednesday.
