The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles is offering assistance to residents who may have been impacted by a massive security breach.
The OMV is providing anyone with Louisiana-issued driver’s licenses, identification cards, and/or vehicle registrations one year of free identity theft protection from LifeLock. This comes after residents’ data may have been stolen during a massive May data breach by cyber hackers who targeted a third party called MOVEIt. According to state officials, OMVuses MOVEIt to transfer files.

“OMV is emailing notices to individuals whose information was involved in the incident and for whom OMV located an email address,” state officials said in a statement. “In addition, OMV established a dedicated, toll-free call center to answer questions that individuals may have. If you believe your information was involved and have any questions about this incident, please call (866) 861-8717. The call center will be open twenty-four hours per day and seven days a week.”
OMV officials also urge Louisiana residents to monitor their credit to make sure their data was not stolen and used by criminals.
