Kanpur: In an appalling incident, a man allegedly burnt alive his wife, who was nine months pregnant, after she voiced opposition against his extramarital affair. The incident took place in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh late Wednesday night.
How it happened
According to the police, the accused, identified as Akhilesh Nishad of Unnao’s Nathukeda area, tied the knot with Anjali, a resident of Nawabganj in Kanpur, around 12 years ago. On Wednesday night, Nishad left home with Anjali, saying that he was taking her to a doctor for medical checkup. He took her to an isolated spot in Alamnagar locality, where he allegedly battered her with bricks and then set her on fire using an inflammable liquid.
The next morning, Alamnagar locals found a woman’s charred body surrounded by stray dogs in a vacant plot. Following this, the police were informed. Subsequent inquiries led to the identification of the victim, according to a report by The Times of India.
The accused man’s father, identified as Ram Ghulam, said his son was in an illicit relationship with another woman. Whenever Anjali raised her voice against his affair, Nishad would subject her to harassment, Ghulam added.
Accused on the run
“We are in the process of registering an FIR under the relevant section of the IPC. Statements of the deceased’s family were being recorded. Prima facie it appears to be a murder over an extramarital affair,” the report quoted ASP Vinod Kumar Pandey as saying.
The accused is currently absconding, the ASP said, adding that efforts are being made to nab him.
In another incident, a 45-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and her paramour in Palghar district of Maharashtra.
Police said the incident happened on Sunday when the accused returned home early from work and saw his wife with the man, who was his brother-in-law. Following this, he allegedly axed both of them to death with an axe.
