Upwards of 38,000 vehicle and traffic tickets were issued statewide during the national Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign, according to the New York State Police.
The crackdown was held from May 22 to June 4, during which the state police and other local law enforcement agencies cracked down on seat belt use, drunken and distracted driving and more. Troopers said they issued 38,363 total tickets during the campaign statewide, with 399 arrests for driving while intoxicated.
A total of 2,436 motor vehicle crashes were investigated, with 410 personal injury crashes and two fatal crashes. Statewide, a total of 8,473 seat belt tickets were issued, 10,654 speeding tickets were issued and there were 337 violations of the Move Over Law.
The Central New York Region had the highest number of overall tickets issued per region, other than the Thruway. There were 4,485 tickets issued in Central New York, including 928 speeding tickets, 28 drunken driving arrests and 1,262 seat belt and child safety seat violations, troopers said.
There were 5,056 total tickets issued along the Thruway during the crackdown. During last year’s Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign, which ran from May 23 through June 5, the state police issued 40,038 total tickets and arrested 441 people for DWI.
