In May alone, at least two local businesses were targeted by hackers and subjected to blackmail. In one instance, the hackers demanded VND4 billion in exchange for decrypting keys to 10 terabytes of encrypted data.

Between January and June, Bkav Corporation’s technical support center received hundreds of requests related to ransomware, a type of malware that encrypts user data and demands a ransom for the release of decryption keys.

Ransomware attacks have been observed through various means, including phishing emails that contain malicious attachments. Such attacks pose significant threats to user privacy and business data.

According to Bkav, over 50% of business and individual customers seeking support had not utilized trusted antivirus and malware software.

To mitigate the risks associated with ransomware, the company recommends that local users regularly back up their data, actively inspect content, and employ internet security gateways, among other measures.
