Pa. State Police report 671 crashes and 10 deaths over Labor Day travel period | #childsafety | #kids | #chldern | #parents | #schoolsafey


Pennsylvania State Police investigated 671 vehicle crashes resulting in 10 fatalities and 220 injuries during the Labor Day weekend travel period that ran Friday through Monday.

Alcohol was a factor in 61 nonfatal crashes and two fatal crashes in the state, officials said.

Troopers made 514 arrests for driving under the influence and issued 27,546 total traffic citations, including 864 for not wearing a seat belt and 233 for failing to secure children in a child safety seat.

Troopers issued 9,110 citations for failing to obey posted speed limits.

Within Berks County-based Troop L, which also covers Schuylkill County and northern Lebanon County, troopers investigated 32 crashes resulting in 17 injuries. There were no fatalities. Four of those crashes were described as alcohol-related.

Troop L personnel made 31 DUI arrests and issued 682 speeding tickets. They also cited 61 drivers for seat belt violations, six of them involving child safety seats.
