Paisley school named ambassador for road safety | #schoolsaftey

A Paisley primary school, which has seen its pupils struck by cars in the past, has teamed up with a national charity to make the roads around campus safer.

Todholm Primary has been named an ambassador school for Brake and has hosted a number of initiatives as part of Road Safety Week 2023.

The school, which has its own junior road safety officers and spearheaded a number of its own projects, took part in the #Brake 5 challenge while promoting the theme ‘let’s talk about speed’.

The challenge recognises that five people are killed in road accidents every day and tasked schools with taking on five day’s worth of road safety challenges.

The youngsters hosted a Bake for Break fundraising cake sale, a Be Bright non-uniform day, as well as the Family Five Challenge.

This encouraged families to actively travel five miles over the course of the week in any method they choose such as walking, cycling, running, scooting or roller-skating.

Together they raised an incredible £600 for the national road victim service. Acting principal teacher Gillian Struthers said: “We are sandwiched between two extremely busy roads and while we can do nothing about that, we are doing our best to promote safer use of roads and parking around the school.
