The Wake County Board of Education will approve a plan for the spring semester on Tuesday, but some say they are being restricted from making their voices heard.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US, I’M DEBRA MORGAN. >> IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE FROM THAT COCKPIT. NEW TONIGHT, WE LEARNED THE PERSONAL ASSOCIATED WITH THE MIDDLE SCHOOL HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19. SOMEONE ALSO TESTED POSITIVE. AND SOME SAY THEY ARE BEING RESTRICTED FOR MAKING THEIR VOICES HEARD. THE SCHOOL BOARD SAYS THEY ARE KEEPING THEM FROM LETTING PEOPLE IN? >> AND ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE WAKE COUNTY SCHOOL HAS BEEN STREAMING ALL OF THEIR SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS LIVE IN REAL TIME AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, JUST SO PARENTS, THEY COULD GET THOSE UPDATES. NOW, I DID SPEAK TO SEVERAL PARENTS, AND THEY WILL GET A CHANCE TO WEIGH IN WHEN THE MEETINGS ARE VIRTUAL WITH THE STARK CONTRAST BETWEEN 10 PEOPLE IN PUBLIC MEETINGS AND ABOUT 20 PEOPLE IN THE CLASSROOM. TODAY MORE THAN 35,000 STUDENTS RETURN TO IN-PERSON LEARNING IN WAKE COUNTY. SOME CLASSES MAY HAVE BETWEEN 15 TO 20 STUDENTS. SHAWN POLLINS DISAGREES WITH THE EXECUTIVE ORDER OF EXCLUDING SCHOOLS FROM THE 10- PERSON LIST. >> I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY THE GOVERNOR AND THE SCHOOL BOARD BOTH FEEL LIKE ONE OF THE FEW PLACES WHERE THAT SHOULD NOT APPLY IS IN A CLASSROOM. >> Reporter: BUT NINE WAKE COUNTY BOARD MEMBERS AND CATHY MOORE WILL STILL MEET IN PERSON ON TUESDAY. POLLINS WANTED AN OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK DURING THE PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD. >> THE BEST WAY IN AMERICA TO EXPRESS THEIR CONCERNS, DIRECTLY WITH THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE IN POWER TO MAKE THOSE DECISIONS ON YOUR BEHALF. >> Reporter: THE OTHER PARENTS WILL CHIME IN ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT THE SCHOOL BOARD’S DECISION TO SUSPEND IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE FOR THE PUBLIC. ONE CALLING IT UTTERLY DISGRACEFUL. ANOTHER CLAIMS THE BOARD, THEY ARE CERTAINLY NOT LEADING BY EXAMPLE. AND THE BOARD CHAIR SAYS FOLLOWING THE GOVERNOR’S EXECUTIVE ORDER IS A DIFFICULT, BUT NECESSARY CALL. >> IT WILL GIVE THEM PUBLIC ACCESS AS THEY STILL HAVE ACCESS. AND IN THE WAY IN WHICH THEY WILL LIKE IT FOR THEIR FACE-TO- FACE VIEW, BUT AGAIN, WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PANDEMIC. >> Reporter: THE SCHOOL BOARD, THEY DID ALLOW A LIMITED AMOUNT OF PEOPLE TO ATTEND THOSE MEETINGS, STARTING ON OCTOBER 6, WHEN THE STATE LIMIT WAS 25 PEOPLE FOR INDOOR GATHERINGS. WE DO WANT TO BE CLEAR THAT TOMORROW’S MEETING WILL LOOK A LOT DIFFERENT WITH ONLY NINE SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS AND THE SUPERINTENDENT. >> ALL RIGHT, AARON THOMAS
