Paterson NJ teen jumped after school aide was fired, grandmother says | #schoolsaftey

PATERSON — A student involved in a school hallway tussle that resulted in the firing of a popular instructional aide ended up being jumped by classmates for snitching on the staff member, the teenager’s grandmother said.

The grandmother told the Paterson Board of Education during its meeting last week that the teen has been going through emotional problems after allegedly being assaulted on April 18 by the instructional aide, Boswell Anglin. She said her grandson’s distress was compounded on May 4 when he was attacked by fellow schoolmates when he resumed attending classes at Alonzo Moody Academy, the district’s alternative education high school.

“Every time he’s angry, he wants to fight, because that’s what the school district taught him,” the grandmother said at the school board’s June 15 meeting. “You come to school, you get beaten. I don’t care if you do right, you have to fight.

“After the 15 kids beat him, can you understand his mental state?” she said.

The grandmother said the attackers told her grandson that he was targeted because of his role in the punishment imposed on Anglin.

“Mr. Boswell is a personnel matter; I’m not going to comment in public,” Paterson Schools Superintendent Eileen Shafer said in response to the grandmother’s statements.
