Petersburg School Board to hear audit presentation | #Education | #parenting | #parenting | #kids

The Petersburg School board is meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. via Ring Central.

The Petersburg School Board meets Tuesday to hear a draft audit of the school’s budget as well as to vote on replacing the water heater at the grade school.

The school board will hear a presentation by the district’s accounting firm, BDO, about the fiscal year 2020 audit. The presentation will happen over the meeting’s teleconference link.

The board will also vote on a proposal to replace the water heater at the Stedman Elementary School. According to the district, the current water heater was installed in 1981 and has significant pitting. If the board approves the project, work would begin over winter break or spring break to lessen the impact on student learning.

The school board will be asked to accept the resignation of two maintenance employees—Eric Hoff and Rans McIntosh. The board will also vote on hiring a full-time custodian, Juan Astorga, as a replacement. Board members will also consider hiring Christine Slaght (Slat) as an instructional aide for the elementary school. Erica Thompson has been transferred from an instructional aide to the high school secretary position.

The school board plans to recognize the Mitkof Middle School for being named Exemplary High Performing Schools National Blue Ribbon School for 2020 by the U. S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos. The local middle school is one of two schools in Alaska receiving the recognition. The Department of Education plans a virtual award ceremony November 12 and 13. Schools will also receive plaques and flags.

The senior class advisors have suggested that the graduation ceremony this year be May 24th because Memorial Day weekend falls after the last day of school in the school calendar.

Also at the meeting, the school board members will hear administrative reports from the superintendent, the principals, and the activities director.

The school board meeting starts at 6 p.m. via Ring Central video conferencing. KFSK will be broadcasting the meeting live.

To listen to the meeting, you can stream it online at KFSK.org. To participate during visitors’ comments, email the district office before the meeting to get the password for the videoconference. Those email addresses are: exec@pcsd.us or supt@pcsd.us. Or call the office at (877)-526-7656.

Here is the meeting agenda.
