SIOUX FALLS (KSFY) – Authorities say tipsters helped them track down two suspects in a credit card skimming case in southeast South Dakota.
Thirty-year-old Dairon Rodriguez and 25-year-old Darcy Quintero, both of Cuba, were arrested Friday, according to Sgt. Jason Gearman of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office.
Gearman says an “alert citizen” and a Walmart employee called police after recognizing the suspects. Both suspects were later arrested at a Sioux Falls Walmart.
Police conducted a search of their car. Gearman says officers found around 50 additional credit cards.
Authorities have been on the lookout for the suspects since credit card skimmers were found at a pair of Baltic gas stations in late August.
Rodriguez and Quintero both face several counts of forgery, identity theft, and use of a false credit card.
Gearman said it is still unclear how many victims there are in the case. He advised anyone who may have used a credit card at one of the targeted gas stations to monitor credit card activity.
