The Montreal police (SPVM) sexual assault unit is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect who may be linked to multiple cases of indecent exposure and sexual touching that occurred from June to September 2023 in two university libraries at McGill and at the University of Montreal.
Victims were approached in libraries by a man asking for help finding books on the shelves. As soon as their backs are towards him, the suspect takes the opportunity to rub his genitals on them and expose himself.
Police describe the suspect as a white-skinned man, in his thirties, approximately 5’ 9” tall, with short brown hair and possibly blue eyes. He was seen with a cap, a blue backpack and black shoes and was wearing a cycling outfit under his clothes. According to police, the suspect speaks both French and English.
Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact 911 or their local police station. It is also possible to make a report anonymously and confidentially with Info-Crime Montréal at 514 393-1133 or on the Info-Crime website.
As multiple victims were identified, the Serial Crime Investigation Management Structure (GECS) was deployed. It is a unified command structure in which Quebec police services work in partnership in order to identify crimes committed by predators and arrest them. Coordinated by the Quebec provincial police (SQ), the GECS aims to pool police resources to help victims of sexual assault.
