Police situation prompts the evacuation of multiple Colorado schools | #schoolsaftey

FLORENCE, Colo. (KKTV) – A situation involving police prompted the evacuation of a few Colorado schools on Wednesday including schools in Canon City and Florence.

The all-clear for all schools impacted was given by 2 p.m. KKTV 11 News is working to learn more about what prompted the evacuations.

Just before noon the Fremont Re-2 School District posted the following to social media:

“Dear Staff and Parents-

As a precautionary measure, we are evacuating the Florence Jr/Sr high school. The Florence Police Department notified the district of a situation at CCHS, that is trickling over to our school. This is a precautionary measure to allow the administration and law enforcement to walk the building for hazardous material. Please do not go to the school. We will update you as soon as possible.”

Florence is located in Fremont County southeast of Canon City.

KKTV 11 News is reaching out to Florence Police and we hope to provide updates as they become available.

The Canon City School District posted the following to social media:

“Dear Canon City School District staff, students, and parents,

This morning law enforcement received notification from the Colorado Crisis Hotline of a potential threat at Cañon City High School. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately initiated an evacuation procedure to safely and calmly move all students and staff outside the building while law enforcement cleared and searched the premises. We know this likely caused concern and disruption to the school day, but our utmost priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.

We are relieved to report the evacuation and search went smoothly. Law enforcement completed a comprehensive sweep and did not find any dangerous or suspicious materials on school grounds. We have been given the all clear to resume classes and school activities as normal. Students will return to classes for the remainder of the day as normal.”
