A 34-year-old convicted sex offender is being released from prison next week, police say.

Jesus A. Garza will be released to the halfway house at 1504 Water St. on Aug. 22, according to a news release from the Stevens Point Police Department.

Garza was convicted in 2019 on felony charges of second-degree sexual assault or a child and child enticement. A charge of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime was dismissed but read-in for sentencing. After pleading guilty, he was sentenced in 2020 to four years in state prison with credit for the 298 days he’d already served, followed by six years of extended supervision.

According to SPPD, Garza met the victim, a 15-year-old girl, on social media and told the girl he was the same age. Shortly after meeting, he picked up the girl in his vehicle and took her to his residence, where he slapped her, and engaged in fellatio and intercourse.

Garza has conditions to have no unsupervised contact with minors; no contact with the victim; not to consume drugs. He also must comply with all sex offender rules, cooperate with electronic monitoring, have regular face-to-face contact with law enforcement, comply with all rules and lifetime registration of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry, and comply with discretionary GPS.

His current address and any change of address will be updated and available online by accessing the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry at
