In April 2023, Jared Walter took videos on his phone of 31 women using the bathroom at Providence Park, a Shake Shack and other businesses across Portland.

PORTLAND, Ore. — On Thursday, a jury found serial sex offender Jared Walter guilty on 31 counts of invasion of personal privacy.

Back in April 2023, Walter took videos on his phone of 31 women using the bathroom at Providence Park, a Shake Shack and other businesses across Portland.

“We all learned that Mr. Walter was going throughout the city recording women in the bathroom without their consent, in a state of nudity, while their pants, while their undergarments were down,” the prosecuting attorney said during closing arguments.

The jury saw videos from Walter’s phone and surveillance video of Walter walking into the women’s restroom at several locations.

The prosecution also played an audio recording of a woman screaming and exclaiming, “Oh my god!” The attorney said it was the moment one of the women realized Walter was recording her in a bathroom stall.

Invasion of privacy is not a new charge for Walter. He was arrested in 2020 for the same offense and pleaded guilty to taking photos of a woman using the bathroom at Lloyd Center. Earlier that same year, he was accused of inappropriately touching a woman outside Legacy Emmanual Hospital.

Walter has a lengthy criminal history rife with sexual abuse and is infamously known for cutting women’s hair and assaulting them on TriMet. In some cases, he was known to ejaculate on the women’s hair. He was the first person banned from the transit system for life; TriMet has banned seven in total.

While prosecutors originally thought of seeking a life sentence, an attorney told the judge on Thursday that would not be the case going forward.

Walter is expected back in court in August.
