Predator wiped shop CCTV after sex attack and called police in bid to blame victim | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

A remorseless sexual predator groped and tried to kiss a woman when she came into his corner shop late at night.

Shopkeeper Searwan Raza, 49, sexually assaulted the woman, whom he had known since she was a little girl, in the aisle of the store on Lawrence Road, Wavertree, at around 11pm on March 29 2022. When the woman fled the shop in tears, he attempted to cover his tracks by calling the police himself and claiming she had threatened to falsely accuse him of attacking her after he refused to sell her cigarettes.

He also accessed the shop’s CCTV system and deleted footage which showed him grabbing the woman, embracing her and trying to kiss her as she moved her face away.

At Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, August 10, prosecutor Carmel Wilde said the woman had been alone in the shop when Raza approached her and groped her breasts over her clothes. She said: “She recalls him asking her numerous times to show her breasts. The defendant tried to hug and kiss the complainant near the door. The complainant left the shop crying.”

The woman told her boyfriend what happened, and her family visited the shop and demanded to see the CCTV footage – but Raza claimed it was not working.

He continued to withhold CCTV from police, refusing to provide contact details for the shop’s owner and claiming he did not know how to work the CCTV system himself.
