MANILA, Philippines — An investigating team has been formed at the Department of Health (DOH) to check if gross negligence and incompetence made it possible for hackers to leak the personal information of members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth).

Health Secretary Teodoro Herboso told reporters on Tuesday in an ambush interview in Malacañang that he formed the team as part of “due process.”

The PhilHealth online systems were hacked earlier this month, leaking the information of members.

According to Herbosa, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has already held several meetings about the hacking.

Asked how Marcos reacted to the hacking, Herbosa said, speaking partly in Filipino: “Basically irritated because it is not just PhilHealth. PhilHealth was the start, and then suddenly, several other government agencies were hacked.”
