LYON COUNTY — Prosecutors will pursue a new trial date next year, prosecutor Jason Darnall said Wednesday after a judge declared a mistrial in the Russell Brian McDonald case in Lyon County. McDonald, who is the tourism director in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, is accused of violating the sex offender registry.

McDonald is accused of registry violations in Lyon County stemming from his presence at a playground and a school in two separate incidents. As The Sun reported in August, McDonald has been on the sex offender registry since 2005 after he was convicted of two counts of child sexual abuse.
