Hi,
Since past 15+ years, I am using windows only. I have gone through quite a bit of virus episodes. Thankfully nothing caused major harm (yet). With Windows hardening the OS and Anti-Virus programs finally becoming intelligent enough, the occasional viruses that I still manage to download get caught and annihilated. I am currently using Windows for the past 5 years in my laptop and McAfee AntiVirus is doing a damn good job to keep me safe.
However, my perception towards Anti-Malware changed recently when my employer became a victim of a ransomware attack. I never thought that in spite of having the latest Anti-Virus and multiple Endpoint protection softwares installed, my workstation could be affected.
Now, I am concerned about the protection of my personal laptop. Currently it is running Windows 10 Pro version 1909 with all the latest patches and McAfee AntiVirus is also up to date. Even though McAfee says it is AntiVirus, but it came with VirusScan, Firewall, WebAdvisor and Vulnerability Scanner.

Now, my McAfee AntiVirus is up for renewal soon and I am thinking –
- whether I should purchase Malwarebytes Premium.
- whether I should go for more advanced protection like FireEye Endpoint Security.
- whether I should keep investing money in McAfee along with one of the Anti-Malware protections like the above 2.
- whether I should keep using only McAfee (as it has caught all the viruses and malwares so far).
Yes – I’ve gone through the post ‘Answers to common security questions – Best Practices‘ – https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/407147/answers-to-common-security-questions-best-practices/ and especially through the post ‘Supplementing your Anti-Virus Program with Anti-Malware Tools‘ but still can’t decide. What’s your opinion?
