Rapists and sex attackers who preyed on strangers in Hull and East Yorkshire | #predators | #childpredators | #kids | #parenting | #parenting | #kids

It’s enough to make your blood run cold and one of the worst crimes you can think of.

More people are bravely coming forward to report sexual crimes committed against them and, more often than not, they are committed by someone they know.

However, there are many, many terrifying cases where the perpetrator will pick a stranger, targeting them on a darkened street, in broad daylight and even in their own homes where they should feel safe.

Disgusting predators such as these have been dragged before Hull Crown Court after their victims bravely reported what happened to them.

Some were identified by their victim, others with DNA and forensic evidence.

In a recent survey, the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) said that in 45 per cent of cases with female victims of rape or assault by penetration, the offender was someone already known to them.

However, there were 13 per cent of cases where female victims reported the offender as a stranger, the report showed.

Hull Live has looked back on the court cases in the last year where sickening sexual predators attacked people they never met.

Michael Wilson

Michael Wilson was given a suspended sentence

64-year-old sex offender Wilson dressed as a schoolboy before sexually assaulting a girl.

Wilson – who was later found to have a secret room full of school uniforms – wore a wig and dressed as a pupil of Headlands School in Bridlington when he squeezed the bottom of a 14-year-old girl on January 8 last year.

He was later caught by a member of staff in an out-of-bounds area of the school.

When he was arrested a day later, police searched his home in High Street Bridlington and found the secret room and a story written by him titled ‘My Life As A 13-year-old Schoolboy.’

Police also found a fake Headlands School identification card which contained an old picture of him.

Wilson was sentenced by Judge David Tremberg at Hull Crown Court in March this year to 12 months in prison suspended for two years.

Mantvydas Daubaras

He was found guilty by a jury

Evil Daubaras, 27, prowled Beverley Road and raped a woman who had been on a night-out with her friends, leaving her muddied and bleeding.

Hull Crown Court heard Daubaras had been “circling the town” with a friend “to entertain themselves” in June 2017.

The woman was found unconscious by friends propped up against a fence in a tenfoot on Ash Grove, near Beverley Road the same night.

She had not realised she had been raped and could not remember much of the night.

The woman noticed blood on her denim shorts the next morning and attended a police station for a medical examination which found she had suffered “very uncommon injuries.”

She told police in an interview that although she could not remember everything, she had visions of being inside a car at some point.

The woman had been on a night out with friends at the Adelphi Club but had become separated when looking for a taxi home.

Daubaras had already offered the woman a lift twice – once where she got into the car and later out again – and then bumped into her again after his friend dropped him home and he went to buy cigarettes.

CCTV played to the court showed the pair walking towards Ash Grove where Daubaras raped and then left her.

Her friends later found her “lucid” and “confused.”

Daubaras was convicted after a six-day trial and sentenced to 14 years in prison in February this year.

Judge Mark Bury told him: “What you did was very serious and there was some planning. You saw [the victim] as vulnerable and decided that you would have sex with her. You took her up Ash Grove and down a dark alley and you raped her. It was not possible for her to resist and you left her there.

“The psychological harm was severe. She has some satisfaction in knowing she was believed by the jury.”

Jamie Plaxton

Despicable Plaxton targeted a jogger, who he assaulted with intent to commit a sexual offence and tried to kidnap.

Plaxton was jailed earlier this year for 13 years after he attacked the jogger, who was running in the St Andrew’s Quay area – where Plaxton was living at the time.

He approached her from behind and grabbed hold of her, claiming to be a police officer and trying to take her into a nearby derelict building.

The woman resisted and Plaxton began to hit her repeatedly in the head, face and body.

But she managed to get away and call the police. Officers found Plaxton inside one of the buildings a short time later, with the clothing described by the victim hidden under a mattress inside.

The day before, Plaxton had left a man with serious facial injuries in an unprovoked attack in the same area.

Plaxton was found guilty of the attempted kidnap and assault with intent to commit a sexual offence following a trial.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “Plaxton was also given a further four years on license and has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for Life.”

Detective Constable Luke Albison praised the victims for their bravery throughout the trial.

He said: “Plaxton is a despicable, violent criminal and his actions were utterly abhorrent.

“I hope that he uses his time inside as an opportunity to reflect on what he has done and the impact that his actions have had on the lives of the victims.

“I hope now that Plaxton is locked up, they can begin to feel safer and hopefully are able to move on from their ordeal.”

Michael Laverick

RAPIST: Michael Laverick
RAPIST: Michael Laverick

Teenage rapist Laverick was locked up for his sickening crimes against schoolgirls in December last year following a trial.

In October last year, Laverick, of Denison Road in Pocklington, sobbed as he was convicted of rape, attempted rape, three sexual assaults, making a threat to kill, and common assault.

He was later jailed for 12 months and six months.

Laverick, 19, attacked both girls after approaching them from behind while they were walking alone in secluded areas near his home.

He was only prevented from raping his second victim by a member of the public, who came across him sexually assaulting her and “grabbed hold of Laverick telling [her] to run.”

He later threatened to kill that girl, having already told his rape victim at the scene: “A d*** will only go where it wants to go” and “If you tell anyone they’ll blame you for being too weak to fight me off.”

Detective Sergeant Stuart Fox of Humberside Police’s protecting vulnerable people unit’s child sexual exploitation team, said: “This investigation was a complex matter and relied heavily upon the bravery of the victims who came forward and stood up to Michael Laverick.

“The court heard how he was coercive and sinister, and about the danger he presented to vulnerable people.

“Michael Laverick is a dangerous offender and he has received a substantial sentence which should protect the public for a significant period of time, especially those most vulnerable.”

Evil Dumitru was able to evade justice for four months when he didn’t turn up for his trial in July last year.

Despite his absence, Dumitru was convicted by a jury of the sickening attack on a sex worker in an Audi on Hessle Foreshore.

A jury took just one hour to convict Dumitru of rape and assault by beating after a three-day trial.

He was sentenced to eight years imprisonment by Recorder Ian Harris.

The judge said Dumitru was “prowling” around the Hessle Road area when he spotted his victim, a sex worker, and spoke to her from his car. She agreed to perform a sex act for £30 and got in the passenger seat.

But against her wishes, Dumitru took her to an “isolated” car park near the foreshore. While she was performing the sex act they had agreed on, he began punching her in the face before raping her in the back seat.

CCTV captured the woman fleeing half-naked from the car.

The 33-year-old was arrested and questioned by police on January 14 last year, but was later granted bail by a judge and did not attend his trial.

He was brought back from Romania in October last year, when he was sentenced to eight years in prison.

An extra three months was added to his sentence for failing to appear before the court for his trial.

Detective Inspector Jon Cross, from the Humberside Police protecting vulnerable people unit, said: “Right from the initial report from the victim to the officers that found her, through to today’s sentencing my team have worked hard to bring about today’s sentencing.

“This man violently attacked a vulnerable woman, with no concern for her safety before fleeing the country to escape justice.

“I would like to praise the victim for her courage in coming forward.”

Mark Scott

Mark Scott

Evil former prison officer Scott was jailed after being found guilty of nine counts of rape and one of attempted rape after a seven-week trial last year.

Scott met his victims on nights out, through friends or on dating websites Plenty of Fish and Badoo.

The rapes and attempted rape took place between 2005 and 2006.

A jury took just over one day of deliberation to deliver their verdicts to the court.

Prosecutors in the trial described Scott as someone who “may be charming, good fun and attractive” to women, but said there is “another side” to the Hull man who pressed on women to “satisfy his own sexual desire or needs.”

One of his victims described “feeling worthless for anyone or anything” and said she suffers flashbacks and had contemplated suicide and “just wanted to end it all.”

Another victim said: “What this man did to me has changed me and changed my life. His actions have left me with low self-worth. He’s taken a piece of me away I’ll never be able to get back.”

Scott cried as he was jailed for 20 years in June last year.

Recorder Ben Nolan QC said he was sentencing him as a “dangerous offender” and told Scott he has an “ingrained sense of entitlement to sex on his terms.”

Scott must serve two-thirds of the 20 years before he can be considered for parole. If he is released before the end of the 20 years, he will have the remainder of the custodial term added to the eight-year licence period.

The maximum he will serve is 20 years. He would then be on licence for eight years.

Chanayireh was jailed in August last year after he admitted groping women and exposing himself in Hull’s Old Town.

He was handed a six-month sentence for sexual assault, which he did while prowling around various bars in Old Town on Friday, July 12 last year.

Hull Crown Court heard Chanayireh touched the women inappropriately and was later detained by bouncers after he was picked out by doormen after reports made by the two women.

Chanayireh was held until a pair of Humberside Police officers, who were patrolling the city centre at the time, were hailed to the scene and arrested him.

One of the victims said that Chanayireh had indecently exposed himself to her and then proceeded to touch her inappropriately.

Chanayireh was also forced to sign on the Sex Offender’s Register for seven years.
