Registered Sex Offender Apprehended at North Idaho State Fair & Rodeo; Faces New Charges | Idaho | #childpredator | #kidsaftey | #childsaftey

COEUR D’ALENE – On August 25th, 2023, the Idaho Department of Corrections/Probation & Parole Registered Sex Offender Unit and Detectives with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that Registered Sex Offender & State Probationer Richard J. Landreth, a 75-year-old male from Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, was working somewhere in the carnival area of the 2023 North Idaho State Fair & Rodeo.

Following up on the tip, Probation Officers and detectives immediately responded & searched the carnival, quickly locating Landreth working inside a booth, selling ride tickets to unsuspecting fairgoers of all ages. Landreth’s failure to notify & inform his Probation Officer of his carnival employment led to his immediate arrest, as it was a clear violation of his probation.

In the days to follow, Detectives with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office conducted their own investigation into this matter, where Probable Cause was established to arrest Landreth on a new Sex Offender Registration Violation (SORV) charge, as he had also failed to notify the Sheriff’s Office of his new employment.

On August 31st, 2023, Detectives responded to the Kootenai County Public Safety Building and arrested Landreth for one count of SORV/Failure to Update RSO Information. A Judge set his bond at $250,000.

The Sheriff’s Office would like the public to know that neither Kootenai County, The Kootenai County Fairgrounds, The Kootenai County Fair Committee, nor the North Idaho State Fair & Rodeo has anything to do with the hiring of temporary employees in either the carnival area or the many food vendors working at our Fair, as they are each independent businesses.
